Historically, the Theater District has always served a vital role as "the Heart of Downtown" Tacoma. The area has been home to more than a dozen theaters and performance venues. Currently, the Pantages and Rialto Theaters built in 1918, along with the Theatre on the Square built in 1993, houses the City's core performing arts Organizations: Northwest Sinfonietta; Puget Sound Revels; Tacoma City Ballet; Tacoma Concert Band; Tacoma Opera; Tacoma Philharmonic; Tacoma Symphony Orchestra; and Tacoma Youth Symphony Association.

The historic charm of the neighborhood serves vistors, residents, and merchants alike offering a variety of delicious restaurants and eateries, hip coffee shops, pubs, bookstores, antique shops, boutiques, art galleries, spas and neighborhood parks.
